Luv 2 Read

This blog includes book reviews and recommendations for teen readers

Cassie and her family were doing pretty well until The Others came. First, everything powered down; airplanes, phones, cars, lights, everything. Then, only the ones who didn't get washed away survived. The third wave killed Cassie's mother, along with millions more, with a plague. The arrival of the Silencers, a group of 'Others' who were sent to kill leftover humans. That's when they came. For safety, the kids were taken to a military base, to be trained to fight. Including her younger brother, Sam. When she is accidentally left behind, she has to find her way back to him. When she is shot, she is helped by Evan, another teenager trying to survive. When she is finally healed, he helps her search for her brother, and that's when it hits: The 5th wave. I'll give the first book in the series four stars and second book three stars. I wish that the second one would have been at a slower pace. As for the first book, I felt as if it was written more clearly. I l...
The Lovely Reckless is about a teenager named Frankie whose boyfriend was murdered right in front of her. After the incident, everything went downhill. Mostly because she blames herself. She would have told the police what the killer looked like. That is, if she knew. All she remembers is seeing the horrid events happen. She can't remember his face, and it haunts her knowing that she can't help the police put him behind bars. They have no way of figuring it all out. No security cameras, no witnesses (other than Frankie, nothing. when her mom and step dad get tired of her behavior after she is caught drinking and driving, she is sent to her father, an undercover cop. The plus side is that she can go to school with two of her best friends, Lex and Abel. But on her first day, she already witnesses a fight, which is common in the Downs. Marco, one of the guys fighting, is soon attached to Frankie, as she is to him as well. He's very attractive, but Frankie is still cautious aro...
An Ember in the Ashes is a book about two characters with very different point of views. Laia lives with her her grandparents and older brother in a village with not much money, but enough. When soldiers come to their house for a raid, her grandparents are killed and her brother is taken. She barely escapes. Now on her own, she's determined to find her brother and set him free. She poses as a new slave at Blackcliff, trying to find information to report to the Resistance, a group in hiding that plans to fight back, while in return they will help her find her brother. But working as a slave is worse than ever imagined. Former slaves have been punished for the simplest of things. One even jumped off a cliff just to get away. Will she end up like the servants before her? Elias is the commandant's son and the most skilled soldier at Blackcliff. The commandant treats him as if he were just another worthless soldier. She resents him, believing that he's a mistake. Now that the t...
The Last Song is about a seventeen-year-old girl named Veronica “Ronnie” Miller’s life after it went spiraling downhill when her parents split up and her father moved to North Carolina. After three long years, she still remains angry with her parents, especially her father. When her mother decides it would be a good idea for Ronnie and her brother, Jonah, to spend the Summer in North Carolina with him, she's furious. Her father is a former pianist and teacher. Living a patient life by the beach, he's engaged in creating artwork for the church nearby. He lets Ronnie have her space, but he still tries to interact with her, even though she ignores him. The chance comes when she finds a turtle nest in front of their house. She takes the responsibility to keep the predators away. She meets Will and they start off with many arguments, but they slowly start to fall for each other. Will she and her dad finally build a good relationship? Will she and Will's conflicts come between...
Avalon High is about a teenage girl named Ellie. Ellie's parents are professors that decided to move during their sabbaticals, to Ellie's dismay. When they first get there, she sticks to herself, that is, until she runs into Will... literally. Will's Avalon High's star quarterback. To her surprise, he's not the typical jock; cocky or rude. In fact, he's quite polite. When she starts school, she gets assigned a project on King Arthur and everything starts to spiral. Why does she feel so attached to Will? Why does everything, in reality, seem to fit with the story of King Arther? And most importantly, who's trying to sabotage the reincarnation of King Arthur and his court? I give this book four stars. It was a quick read and has great twists and turns as it goes on. My favorite character was Will because even though he's the popular quarterback, he didn't use it against people and actually fights for the underdogs. I may be a little biased seeing as...
Ruby Red was originally written in German. It's about a girl named Gwyneth Shepherd. Gwyneth's sophisticated cousin, Charlotte, has been training to time travel her whole life. Everyone knew she was going to inherit the ability - she had the right birth date for it, of course. But when Gwyneth spins into another era, things become a lot more complicated. Turns out people have been lying about Gwyneth's birth date, and she's not very happy about the big change in her life. She wanted to be a normal girl with normal friends and a normal family. But then again, life can be a complete Hündin....especially when you least expect it. ...
What drew me in with this book was the short chapters. I don't know why, but it's so satisfying to be able to say you are on the 15th chapter in the first 10 minutes of reading it. Don't get me wrong, it's a normal length book, it just has a lot more chapters. Maximum Ride is about a fourteen-year-old girl named Max. Max was part of an experiment. An angel experiment. She practically lived in cages until Jeb helped her and five other kids escape from the horrid place. Sadly, Jeb died and they have been living on their own since, with Max in charge because she is the oldest. But when the Erasers, the School's wolf-human experiment, locate them at last Angel, the youngest and Max's favorite, is taken back to the place they hoped to never see or be anywhere near ever again. When they go to save her, will they get to her in time? Will they find out secrets they never knew? And most of all, will they make it out alive? This book is great for both males and fem...
Heartless is about a girl, named Catherine, who is the daughter of a marquis. She's expected to marry well and be ladylike, but all she wants to do is bake. She plans to start a bakery with her maid, Mary Ann, but her mom goes behind her back to get her to marry the king. On the night of a ball, the king planned to propose to Catherine, until the Jabberwock, a horrible creature, crashes in. When a disappearing cat named Cheshire notifies her that she was being pawned off to marry the king, she makes a plan with the king's mysterious Joker, Jest, to avoid the question. Jest and Catherine fall in love, but when they plan to run away from Hearts and go back to Jest's home, fate proves to have different plans. While some of those plans may seem good, most of them prove to be bad. I give this book four stars. Marissa Meyers did a great job mixing in different characters from Alice and Wonderland, but the pace was a little fast. Despite this, the storyline was great and it w...
SYNOPSIS Nine Lives of Chloe King is about a teenage girl who discovers she’s a mai, but not only that, she’s a special mai. She has nine lives. When her best friends find out they join her in the fight to save her live(s). She falls in love with a human, Adam, and figures out she has a deadly kiss unless it’s a mai, and she does her best to stay away and keep him alive. During that, she starts to fall for another mai. She has to get through the danger and confusion, though, before she has time for a love life.
